The Road to Nowhere…
Prologue
Birth of the Hunters
It is the year 2057. Everything, everywhere, is in chaos, ruins and desolation. Once a glorious empire of mankind, now lie buried beneath a layer of dirt and misery, hated, but still remembered. India was not lucky enough to evade the pain that was inflicted, but at least, the country still lives. But just barely.
As most war veterans may recall, the United States of America, a union so strong that the very mention of its name would bring shivers to the arrogant Mid-Eastern countries. Rumoured strongly to have not less than a thousand nuclear warheads in its toy-box, no one dared to attack them, not even daring to defy their suggestions or orders. All of the United Nations bowed before the USA. India, however was the only exception.
Refusing to submit to the crushing power of the USA, India, under the pretence of ‘cleansing the world’, launched hundreds upon hundreds of nuclear warheads, with courtesy to the Iraqi government, all headed towards the various states of America. The attack came so swift, so decisively, that only an uncoordinated counter-attack was conceived. A fraction of the USA’s own warheads were fired, the rest detonated when the Indian warheads finally found their mark. Ironically, the USA’s own power arsenal dealt the most damage to their land. With the scent of death and radiation spreading throughout the country, there was nobody else to retaliate the attack. All or most of the people have died, a small fraction still alive, some being melted alive by the radiation, while others, fearful for their lives, and somehow lucky enough, managed to crawl their way through the rubble and escaped to neighboring countries.
India, on the other hand, suffered a major, yet not fatal injury. Huge areas of land and towns were left barren. Most of the major cities have just barely escaped destruction. Knowing that the United States of America is no more, India rushed forward to claim the throne, hoping to build a new empire under its rule.
However, the fall of the USA was eagerly anticipated by most of the United Nations, and many more countries tried to rise above the others. A major political carcass exposed, hyenas came, hungrily devouring the remains. Unwilling to share the juicy meat with the others, they began fighting amongst themselves, tearing and gnashing at each other, until all were left broken and dying.
The military forces of each country, with no true leaders to lead them, began forming their own alliances; some even became scavengers, hunters and tomb raiders, braving the intense radiation for lost treasures, all for personal gain and glory. Civilians were left to die; some did so, but most joined the military, just for the sake of shelter and food. A skeletal force of politicians and leaders remained, each desperately trying to protect his or her own property, not caring for others, nor willing to return to lead.
As the years passed by, the effects of global warming worsened, affected by the constant radiation, further torturing those who remained. Canada and the countries immediately around her, have turned into frozen ice lands, battered by constant hail and snowstorms. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and various other natural disasters were now occurring so frequently and randomly, no place was safe from them anymore. Only South-East Asia was barely affected by such calamities, but it was far from an ideal place to stay. The ozone layer is almost non-existent now, the layer directly above Asia giving virtually no protection from the Sun at all. Once humid and warm tropical countries, all that was left were mountains of sand, dirt, and even more sand. Heat waves drove whatever life forms that were left in the continents away.
America, now a land of ruins, is also known now as a golden place of opportunity for the so called ‘hunters’, where important and exotic artifacts were rumoured to be hidden. Only fools would venture into the lands, but these fools, will be the ones who benefit in the end.
But only if they get to live till the end…

In this RPG, set in the fairly near future of 2057, you play as a self-titled "adventurer", voyaging across a desolated, barren America in search of nothing more noble than profit. The world you are in is an interesting one- the US and India have had a war; who started this war has been argued and argued but the truth is still not known. What is known is that while India was damaged in this war, the US was destroyed. While various settlements remain, there is no form of unifying government, leaving many surviving, detached settlements alone in their dead world.
Meanwhile, Canada and the former Russia, now a European state, have become rich and fertile lands due to the effects of global warming. The other side of this is that countries near the equator have become nearly inhabitable, cited as a cause for the India/States war. India is slowly recovering from its wounds, but the US shows no sign of this. Radiation is rife, but the bioweapons used spread deadly syndromes and infections that can kill a person quicker than any natural disease can.
The reason for your visit to America? A lot of fairly wealthy (and either fairly intelligent or well advised) citizens left the country in anticipation of the conflict; there are many items of value to them that they want recovered.
During your "trip" you will have to not only worry about the possibility of diseased natives with a fetish for brains; food, water and rest are also concerns, and radioing for backup or supplies could be very costly, and the people providing it just won't come if you don't have the cash. Coupled with the threat of madness and mutation? Well, your "trip" needs to be profitable.
Welcome to the USA.

Character sheet
Name: (Dave etc)
Nationality: (US adventurers are uncommon, the majority would be European, but don't put European as nationality, be more specific)
Appearance: (Face, hair, heaight etc)
Clothing: (You can wear as much armour as you want, but getting it replaced will be hard and the more you carry the more often you need to rest, eat and drink)
Items: (Food and water would be essential but keep track of them, you can carry utilities or weapons as well but they all have weight, and traveling heavy probably isn't the best option out here, also carrying a huge buster sword will just get you laughed at)
Ability: (Whatever you're good at. Maximum of two.)
Special ability: (You get a maximum of two passive powers in this RPG)
________________________________________
You begin on a turboprop plane, about an hour away from your destination, a base set up by enterprising "colonists" just south of Norfolk, Virginia. Your time on the plane will give the characters a good time to get to know each other. I will notify you when the plane lands. While I would prefer the characters to stay as a group you have no obligation to and are welcome to do as you please, though you will probably miss out on some of the more interesting plot events. Also, I would like you as a player to keep the combat to a minimum. Good players will get surprising surprises. You each start with a few thousand dollars in cash. Don't spend it all at once!
The plane has about 20 adventurers on it, lining the walls. You are wherever you want to be on the plane. Lol.
Edit: One thing to remember; don't be stupid, try to fit in with what's happening. No controlling other peoples characters without consent (especially when killing them), and remember that if someone shoots a gun at you you're pretty much gonna be hit unless you know it's coming. This is fairly realistic, or at least at the start it is.
