The year is 2067, 30 years after the Russia, China, and U.S. pushed the suicide button, after having been at a deadlock in World War III for five years. The stagnation of this war was dissolved by nuclear fire.
The entirety of the world's infrastructure was wiped out in the following nuclear exchanges, as every crackpot who knew how to split an atom took the dissolution of the three world superpowers as a chance to carve a niche for themselves. The resulting aftermath, known as the Afterglow by survivors, has never stopped unfolding since the world catched on fire.
Essentially every major population center was destroyed, and nine people out of ten died. Radiation has made around half of the surface toxic and uninhabitable, and only now are some of the lesser-hit area becoming hospitable to human life again.
Those that survived live in a world of complete anarchy, a world where vendettas centuries old still simmer. A few upstart nations have formed, but for the most part these "countries" are nothing but a large gang staking out territory. Good news is that there's plenty of weapons around to use to survive. Bad news is that all the bad guys are using high-tech military equipment as well.
In this **** there's a glimmer of hope, hope that civilization may be able to start again. This is where you come in. You have a choice to make. The stage is set for drastic change. But it is up to you, to decide what kind of change.

Inferis Rising Gameplay
Inferis Rising is a free-style RPG, but there is an overall narration. At certain points in the RPG, new plot elements such as wars will be posted. These will be introduced in a "Chapter Post", which will detail the event, goal, mission, etc.
Main cities, towns, etc. will be listed in this post, along with a description of each. Missions will also be listed for quick reference. If I feel like it, I'll post a link to each major chapter post in this post.
One of the major elements of this RPG will be the "Hope" meter, shown below:

The Hope Meter is simple representation of the state of the game world. A bolded negative number signifies that world is worse than what it was before the RPG began. A bolded positive number means that it's better off than before. A positive 10 on the Hope Meter means that civilization is beginning to rise back up again, and the anarchy of the game world has nearly subsided. A negative 10 means that the world is in complete chaos.
The Hope Meter is affected by your actions. Think of it as karma--you may find a functioning, relativetly civilized village on your travels if the Meter is at +3. However, if another player decides to go the evil route and becomes a highway man of sorts and starts prowling the roads leading to the village, he will lower the Hope Meter and that village may become a barbaric slum.
