Prologue ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive File 731-0789File Information: File Name: IU9023 Date Added: 213 AW Author: AnonymousFile Type: Recorded Transmission Beginning TransmissionI feel that these events should be recorded in the likely event that I should fail. If a Chronicler of some sort should find this, then please listen and keep record of what I am about to tell you. If a Toa is listening, then a beg for your assistance. But if any affiliates of the Soro-Nui government are listening, then please note that deleting this file will do nothing. Back-Up files are stored in various archives of different areas of the world. To search for them would be a waste of time. Also note that I will not cease and will continue fighting until every ounce of life has left my cold dead body. My name has long been forgotten and shall not be revealed throughout the entire recording. But to prevent confusion, I will be referred to as Ruyzik. Some parts of the transmission may seem outrageous, but please believe me when I say that every bit of this story is true. I am, or was, Infantry Unit 9023, now known as the "Scarlet Rogue", and I will do everything within my power to achieve my goal or die trying.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author's Note: Just thought it would be fun to write a first-person epic. Chapter 1 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soro-Nui was once a peaceful island. We had no Toa, but we did have means of protecting ourselves. We had an army sworn only to protect the inhabitants of Soro-Nui. I was one of these soldiers. During this time of peace, I was arrogant, I complained about how nothing ever happened. I wished I would see some action soon. My wish was granted. We had no Toa, nor any Turaga. Our government was based on a unanimous choice of the inhabitants of who should lead. If the leader was to resign, we would vote again, but if he died, another would take his place, by the deceased's will. Our leader, Yurihk, mysteriously died. Not many details of his death are known, however, it is suspected that he was assassinated, but the suspicion may be out of the utter hatred of the next leader. Hihrag was a Ta-Matoran who wore a silver Kakama, and one of Yurihk's most trusted friends, so it was no surprise that he was next in line to be the new leader. However, how he lead Soro-Nui was...shocking.
He ruled with an iron fist and his punishments for small crimes were very extreme. He said that in order to establish his authority, he had to give harsh punishments for misdemeanors so that more serious crimes would be averted. It wasn't long before rebellion broke out. Many different rebel skirmishes broke out throughout the island, but all were crushed by the hands of the army. At first, the rebels weren't to much of a threat. But each rebel group became more organized as another fell. With this, Hihrag found it necessary to find and execute anyone he suspected with a rebel connection. The accused and their affiliates. Friends, associates, and even family. From this came my first mission, and memories that will forever haunt me, even in the grave.
My squad was assigned to track down a Le-Matoran by the name of Mhirak, who was believed to be supplying the rebellion, and dispose of him and anyone with confirmed connections to him. We found our target in a medium sized house. It was confirmed that there were more than just one being in there. There was a Ga-Matoran and a very young Le-Matoran. I began to feel sick as I realized who they were and what was about to happen to them.
"W-we...We can't do this" I said. "You're to do what you're ordered." replied the Commander.
"But there's a child in there-" "I said that you will do what you're ordered, Lieutenant! On my signal, you will open fire, or will be tried for insubordinanation. Do I make myself clear?"
I felt a chill going down my back. I had no choice. My hand began to tremble. On the signal, I would pull the trigger on my weapon, and I would kill them all. Mhirak, his wife, and his kid.
"Y-Yes, sir."
"1,2..."
I steadied and positioned myself and aimed my weapon at the house.
"3!"
I pulled the trigger, as did the other soldiers in the squad. A large burst of energy fired from our weapons to the building. The next thing I saw was a flash of light, then smoke coming from the flame of what was Mhirak's home. I dropped my weapon. Guilt began to overcome me. One of the other soldiers walked over to me and put his hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry about it. You were just doing your job." he said.
Another soldier walked from the flames holding something. "Sir, we found a survivor."
It was the child. He was crying. He must've been so confused and scared. The Commander walked toward the soldier and the child. He said, "You know what you have to do." The child continued to cry. "Yes sir." said the soldier. He then pointed a gun at the child's head. I turned away as I heard a gunshot. Then the crying ceased.
