I used a Photoshop clone called Ulead Photoimpact. I masked out the figure, applied a filter to highlight edges, colorized it. Drew the polygons, applied a variety of blurs, noises, etc to attempt a parchment effect. That was not as good as I hoped because I was trying to simulate DaVinci's cross hatching at the same time.

Hypocrite alert, I see an avatar lol
I don't think much of the edit itself but it's a pretty sexy MOC. I particulary enjoyed the feet.

re: avatar. Yeah, I succumbed. As long as I don't have to look at them, I'm happy.
As far as the MoC, it's canon from the Brickmaster instructions except for the mandible which I had to improvise a bit. I added a few bits and bobs but nothing radical. It would benefit from some friction (rubberized) socket connectors in the hips.* The knee has two sockets but gives a good knee-like articulation. The design is good except for a few iffy connections which stress the parts, which is something I avoid when I model. Saying that, it's good for me to try out other methods to try to avoid getting in a rut.
The zyglak and the kikanolo seem to be on converging evolutionary trajectories.
I won't defend the photoshoppery except to the extent that it gets the idea across. Perfecting digital images is a rabbit hole that I choose not to go down.
*The parts that I used were oily from the factory. I find that misting the parts with 90% alcohol does a decent job of chasing the oil off without leaving a residue. A more thorough surfactant like 409 might do better but is certain to leave a residue and I doubt that it is healthy.

Ah, I didn't know it was a prebuilt. Comments withdrawn!

You could always use a parchment texture rather then trying to achieve it with filters...or use a very low contrast cloud filter (I'm not sure if Photoimpact has it but it seems a fairly standard filter) and then blur it and then add a soft noise filter. The background reads to me as wood veneer and not parchment.
I do love the fact that his feet match the actual Vitruvian Man's feet ;D Makes the art nerd in me very happy.
