Yup...another one from the weirdo here. I've got a fair number of MOC's to post, although the Kikira are keeping their own thread in the Well of Ideas
Character Details: Xiax is something of a power fanatic in the Brotherhood of the Makuta. Rather than taking over and claiming his own territory, he moves from island to island; preferring to collaborate with other Makuta than work on his own. Despite his seeming lack of a "home base" such as that of the Makuta of Metru-Nui, Xiax is far from failing in the art of conquest. His unique methods allow him to not only use other Makuta as a front for his own actions, but to gain information on them for his gradual rise to power. Despite the presence of what some believe to be a treacherous streak in his machinations, Xiax remains frighteningly loyal to the Brotherhood as a whole; considering a Makuta's day wasted if he has not survived at least six attempts at assassination or rebellion per day.
Rulik, is a mutated Matoran from Voya-Nui. "Rescued" by Xiax when the island returned to its rightful place, Rulik now serves Xiax as something of a Herald. Strength and speed enhanced by his own malice generated from a grafted Tridax pod on his back, Rulik has claimed he is capable of holding his own against even a Toa.
MOC Details: To prevent anyone harping on me over lack of parts/joints, etc; I will say that Xiax and Rulik are essentially a combiner of Chirox, Kirop, Antrox, Radiak, Vamprah, and Gavla. If I hadn't restricted myself to only using parts from those sets, I could've done a LOT more in terms of detail and how good it looks in general.
Still, I'm fairly pleased with the overall appearance. It took me mosto f the evening, but I think it came out well. Surprisingly, dark blue/dark red/black don't look that bad together. Even that bright orange marble in there looks good.
Front
Pretty much how Xiax usually looks. Short, wide, primary wings folded back, secondary wings down around his front as something of a shield. He looks fatter than he is. It may not be noticeable here and I may post other pics, but I used the shadow matoran wings as fingers and used Gavlah's legs for thumb joints. The effect came out well and the claws have a fairly good grip to them.
Back
Contrary to suggested image, one can still push the back button and release the Tridax pod. You just have to do it sort of from one side or the other. One of the fun things with this was trying to balance the color ratio. Black's obviously dominant, but I had to adjust parts a few times to make sure red wasn't outnumbering blue or vice/versa.
Standing
Sort of opened up here. Standing, wings spread, etc. The guy's essentially got six wings total: Two larger ones on his back, a second set just below those, and a third set where each wing branches out from the thigh. I found that Vamprah's forearms + Kirop's legs have this excellent folding potential where they close on each other like a clamshell. It give the legs that odd sort of curve to them and really looks great when the figure's crouched down.
Run little Matoran, run...
This one's sort of an "In flight" shot I did not only for the sake of "here's how he looks in the air", but as something of a size comparison. He's quite a bit taller than the other Makuta here. I used Vamprah's mask on him as it not only helped the "Freaky winged bat demon" image, but also because A: Antroz' mask is too wide, and B: Chirox looks like he's wearing a turban.
And now...for some Rulik!
Front
It hit me after I finished Xiax...that I still had a fair number of parts left over. I also realized that I had a complete sets of arms, legs, and a torso w/head just sitting there, and decided to make a little buddy for Xiax. While he doesn't stick onto his butt the way the other Matoran do their Makuta, I gave him enough extra eye candy to be fun. For one thing, he's got claws AND swords. That's awesome.
BackNaturally, I didn't wanna just stick him with the usual shadow matoran wings, so I went and used the last two rod connectors to stick a torso/tridax pod piece in there as sort of a "heavy duty backpack". It gives him sort of a creepy hunched over appearance.
In Flight
I did it with Xiax, so I had to do it with the little guy too. Referring to the earlier comment about giving him more eye candy, I realized I still had Antroz's claws/blades left over, so I attached those and used 'em. They make fairly decent wings on this guy.
Oh, and if people are nice I may post a few "inner working" shots that show how to build this thing.
