Norn Nui. Isle of dark secrets, and wrathful Rahi. But amongst these creatures there rises one beast, one who would strike fear into even the most hardened of travelers...
The Silverspine.
Its name is a misnomer, for the spine has no defined color. Its power, however, is no less diminished. The stinger on the end of its tail, though filled with a potent venom, hardly ever comes into play. The beast's grasping claws, long reach, and powerful kicks can easily pummel any prey into submission. Even the vicious Azurling knows better then to engage a Silverspine.
These highly territorial creatures attack each other as often as their prey, combats which can only result in no less then the termination of the offender. This powerful way of life extends to all land-dwelling creatures, be they Stubbleback or Vulisan. The most favored of dishes, though, is the baby White Spider. This and this alone will cause any Silverspine to forgo their current actions and even sometimes unite to drive out the little one.
The reason for their obsession with the spiders is twofold. Firstly, the spiders are very tasty, as already mentioned. But more importantly, the spiders grow into the only creatures the Silverspines are truly afraid of. The venomous bite of an adult White Spider is enough to make a Makuta pause, much less a Silverspine. Often, they will be hunting the youngling, when the mother hops out and gives a dreadful hiss. Every once in a while, a Silverspine will continue to asualt the young anyway, due to hunger. Then he shall receive a kiss of death...
All in all, the Silverspine is a vicious predator, a beast not to be ignored. Strong of body, strong of will, and strong of mind, it continues to serve as Norn Nui's primary guard against outsiders. The fact that it has recently added Matoran to the list of potential prey means the Toa have to contain it. Only time will tell, though, wether this is one enemy they cannot defeat...
>>>
That tail, by the way, is really stiff. It essentially only goes up and down.
